What regions are covered by the database?

The JRI-Poland database covers all areas that are currently or formerly part of Poland.  These regions are:

  • Congress Poland (gubernias that were part of Poland as of 1867-1917; all are currently part of Poland except for northern Suwałki Gubernia, which is part of Lithuania) 
      • Kalisz Gubernia (main towns: Kalisz, Koło, Piątek, Wieruszów)
      • Kielce Gubernia (main towns: Chęciny, Kielce, Stopnica)
      • Łomża Gubernia (main towns: Grajewo, Łomża, Ostrów Mazowiecka, Szczuczyn, Tykocin)
      • Lublin Gubernia (main towns: Chełm, Kazimierz Dolny, Lublin, Zamość)
      • Piotrków Gubernia (main towns: Częstochowa, Łódź, Piotrków Trybunalski, Tomaszów Mazowiecka)
      • Płock Gubernia (main towns: Ciechanów, Mlawa, Płock, Płońsk, Przasnysz)
      • Radom Gubernia (main towns: Iłża, Opatów, Radom)
      • Siedlce Gubernia (main towns: Biała Podlaska, Siedlce, Sokołów Podlaski)
      • Suwałki Gubernia (main towns: Augustów, Mariampol, Sejny, Suwałki)
      • Warszawa Gubernia (main towns: Góra Kalwaria, Pułtusk, Radzymin, Warszawa) 
  • Austrian Galicia (voivodeships that were part of Poland between World War I and World War II; Kraków Voivodeship is currently part of Poland, Lwów Voivodeship is now split between Poland and Ukraine, and Stanisławów and Tarnopol Stanisławów Voivodeships are now part of Ukraine)
      • Kraków Voivodeship (main towns: Kraków, Tarnów)
      • Lwów (Lviv) Voivodeship (main towns: Drohobycz, Lwów, Przemyśl, Rzeszów, Sambor)
      • Stanisławów (Ivano-Frankivsk) Voivodeship (main towns: Horodenka, Kołomyja, Stanislawów, Stryj)
      • Tarnopol (Ternopil) Voivodeship (main towns: Brzeżany, Jagielnica, Skałat, Tarnopol, Złoczów)
  • Prussia (portions of German provinces as of 1878 – 1918 that are now in Poland)
      • East Prussia (Prusy Wschodnie) Province (main town: Königsberg in Preussen (Kaliningrad))
      • West Prussia (Prusy Zachodnie) Province (main town: Danzig (Gdańsk))
      • Pomerania (Pomorskie) Province (main town: Stettin (Szczecin))
      • Posen (Poznań) Province (main town: Posen (Poznań))
      • Silesia (Śląsk) Province (main town: Breslau (Wrocław))
      • Neumark (Lubusz) Province (main town: Küstrin (Kostrzyn nad Odrą))
  • Russian Pale (gubernias that were part of Poland between World War I and World War II; currently, the western one-third of Grodno Gubernia is part of Poland, the eastern two-thirds of Grodno Gubernia is part of Belarus, and Volynia Gubernia is part of Ukraine)
    • Grodno (Hrodno) Gubernia (main town: Bialystok)
    • Volhynia (Wołyn) Gubernia (main town: Kremenets)
